Well,

I’ve decided to get round to putting a little info about me up here. Who am I? Well, my name is Daragh Mc Grath, I work for eircom.net (which most people reading this will probably know is Ireland’s largest (althoung not necessarily favourite amongs this community)) ISP.

I currently work in the Corporate Support Department, and I have to say, I thoroughly love my job. Given that I’m posting in a Linux community, I will point out that my only complaint about the current job that I’m in is that I have to deal with MS based products all day. I can’t complain about this too much though, as I’m pretty handy when it comes to dealing with MS products, and the products that run on the doze platform, whereas when it comes to Linux, while not quite a total newbie, I’m still very green around the ears. But then again, we’ve all be at that stage at some point in our lives, and I’ve completely immersed myself in Linux of late, so I’m trying to learn as much, as quickly as possible.

I do like working for eircom.net. I know we do receive a lot of stick, and while I will never stand up and say that this is 100% unjustified, unfortunately we in eircom.net tend to get tarred with the same brush as the incumbent Eircom (pur parent company). While we share the same name as our parent company, in reality, we are very differemt. Eircom.net is a young vibrant company full of enthusastic people, a lot of them with serious brainpower and skills, but I’m never going to be able to change that!!

If at any stage anyone wants any info from the inside of eircom.net or wants a favour done, drop me a line and I’ll see what I can do.

So, what else can I say about myself? Well, my short term goals are to develop my knowledge of Linux to what I hope in a few years will be a very advanced level (I want to go work in our NOC, so that would help!). Short term, I want to get myself a Cisco CCNA qualifacation and get a new car. I think I’ll devote a seperate section for my car at a later stage. No, I’m not a boy racing petrolhead, but I do like my cars!

My other interests apart from computers (which take up most of my life) are traveling, Rugby and Formula One. I think Formula One is still the biggest passion in my life, although Rugby is on an almost equal footing with it now. I had a very good question posed to me last week by a person who knows me better than anyone else (yes you Steph!). She asked me if there was an Ireland Rugby match and a F1 race on telly at exactly the same time, and I had the choice to watch one, and only one, which would it be. I’ve been pondering this for over a week now, and I still cannot answer the question. I think the F1 would win out, but I cannot honestly answer the question!

Anyways, I’ve probably blathered on for long enough now, it’s getting late and I tend to ramble at the best of times, but especially so when I’m tired.

Gimme a shout at any stage if you want me, I can always be found in irc.linux.ie (there’s the plug), or just drop me a mail, and feel free to comment on this if you so wish.
