Mad Weekend

30 06 2003

Ah what a weekend that turned out to be! Went home expecting a nice, quiet and relaxing night on Friday to try and recover from Thursdays antics, but oh no, that was never going to happen. Kate and Mick, my mad aunt and uncle decided that they fancied a spin up the new motorway, so they popped into us. Several bottles of wine and a lot of laughs later they went home. Not good considering I had to be up early Saturday morning for the ILUG AGM. Was quite pleased though, I made it from my house to having coffee on Grafton Street in 40 minutes courtesy of the new motorway.

Wandered around town for a wee while before heading back home to ditch the car and get myself back to Dublin again for a night out. Had a great night, found a few nice new spots for drinks too…the Metropolitan Bar on Eden Quay, and Bankers Bar in the old AIB bank beside Trinity…very nice!.

Went to Captain Americas for dinner and drinks with a few of the lads from work, before heading on to Fireworks…a good night had by all, except for the fact that I didn’t get home till after 5am…the joys of living out the sticks.

Yesterday was all about recovery and lying low. Watched the grand prix and fell asleep out in the Sun which was nice, until I woke up this morning with the rain lashing down!

Almost the weekend

27 06 2003

Ahh, it’s almost the weekend at last!! I can’t wait for this weekend, it’s the first proper time off I’m going to have since I came back from the holidays. Going to the ILUG AGM tomorrow morning in town which should be good, might head home after before heading back into Dublin for the evening. Know quite a few people heading out in town this weekend…and I’ve got someone to make the long trek back home with me as well so it won’t be so bad! :D

Eminem Gig

27 06 2003

I was at the Eminem Gig in Punchestown last night. Wasn’t a bad night, the show actually turned out to be better than I thought it would, tho the disappointment for me was that for a lot of tracks Eminem was playing to a very strong backing track, and could well have been miming too. For a rapper I think this is a very poor show. A lot of the songs that I knew (his better known ones) also stuck very true to the single/radio versions that we all know, save for a bit of scratching and one or two of his support rappers having a go.

The crowd was unreal, I mean we’re talking scumbag central here! ;) but I had a good laugh at them.

Getting in and out of Punchestown last night was an aabsolute nightmare, we joined the traffic jam at Newlands Cross on the way down, and luckily I picked up on a diversion that was mentioned on AA Roadwatch that most other people seemed to miss, but it still took us close on two hours to get there. Coming home was an absolute nightmare, it took 2 hours to get out of the car-park along, and nearly 3 and a half hours to get home (a journey that could be done in about 40 minutes on a normal day!) and I have to say that the Gardai are pretty guilty of being at fault here, there didn’t seem to be any traffic management taking place and the guards were also pretty sparse on the ground!

Pron’s wedding

26 06 2003

Pron has finally got around to getting some pics of his wedding up on the net! Looking forward to seeing more pics of the car that has earned me the promise of free beer!! :D

Busy Week

25 06 2003

Well, I’ve been pretty much flat out since I came home from the holidays, both in and out of work.

Went to Carlingford on Saturday evening with the guys for a few beers and a night on the boat and had a great time. Carlingford really is another world and I love going to the place, but I’m so glad I don’t have to live there! I’d reccommend it to anyone for a weekend away at some stage!

Ended up working all day Sunday, brought my first full production Linux server online, and despite one or two simple configuration problems it went without a glitch, so I can’t complain at all. So far it’s up 2 days and 10 hours, more than the Windoze box it replaced had been able to manage in its final few weeks.

Started working on the email queue for the first time in work this week which has been a bit of extra work and a new experience, so far it’s been good, hope it continues that way!

Going to Eminem tomorrow evening with the gang. Looking forward to it, but I have to say, I got the albums from Rosy the other day and I’ve been listening to them in the car during the week, and even I’m shocked by some of the lyrics!! Let’s just say tomorrow should be interesting

Update

24 06 2003

Haven’t really had the time to blog anything of late, so this is just to keep Barry happy!!

Ouch

22 06 2003

Trying to build Linux servers and fix troublesome firewalls is not good when your suffering from the night before, especially when it’s a Sunday, trust me!!! uuuggghhhh

New York Webcam

20 06 2003

Given Cella’s in NYC at the moment, I’ve decided to add a link to webcams in New York along with the others that are there. Of particular interest is the streaming video which is very good! Now just have to arrange for Cella to get in front of one of them to wave at me! :)

Headline of the Day

20 06 2003

I have to say I’m suprised at Caitriona Mc Fadden on “The Full Irish” on 2FM this morning missing out on this wee gem from todays Irish Independant. It has to be one of the best headlines I’ve seen in a long time!

Greying of the green as birth rates take nose dive is a story about the ageing profile of the Irish population as was highlighted in the Census figures released yesterday.

New Car

19 06 2003

Well, the new car is finally bought. I decided to be sensible and opt for taking Mom’s old car instead of splashing out on the 147 that would have killed me with insurance! Maybe next year!!

Not that I can complain about the car I’m getting, it’s the top of the range Punto with all the extra’s (except air con which I’d really like!) and I know the history and it’s in great nick…so as of Saturday there will be no more snot-mobile!!!!
