Customers get caught up in Eircom’s web
GREAT to see that Eircom has not forgotten its semi-state roots when it comes to customer support. Last weekend, it launched a fixed-price internet access service.
On the same day its ‘customer support line’ advised existing customers that their queries over service could not be dealt with as all call-centre staff were told to concentrate on taking enquiries from potential new customers attracted by the latest promotional hype.
Eircom’s internet and email service owes much to the old ‘Press Button A or B’ gamble which made the P&T and then Telecom Eireann’s unreliable payphone service a by-word for inefficiency in the 1970s and 1980s.
