Eircom Broadband Hotspots

14 12 2004

Eircom have just brought 50 phoneboxes around Dublin online with free wireless broadband available from them. I’ve not tried the service out yet, but, it seems like a pretty neat idea. The list of all 50 phoneboxes is available on the Eircom website, along with a listing of hotels and McDonald’s outlets around the country that offer Eircom Wireless Broadband. To get the list, click on Products and Services => Make the most of Broadband => List of Wireless Hotspots

Hi Jon,

It’s actually really easy. Assuming you have a WiFi card in your laptop, just take it in, fire it up and once you have your card set to accept a network address via DHCP, it will be assigned an IP from the hostpot pool.

You will not be able to access anything however, until you enter the authentication details obtained by purchasing a card from reception at the hotel, assuming that’s where you are, into the login screen given when firing up a browser. You will be automatically presented with this screen until you login, and won’t be able to go any further either.
