The weekend that was

28 02 2005

It promised to be a hectic, action packed weekend, and it was!!

Everything kicked off on Friday lunchtime when Morgan and I headed to Fitzers for a pre-christening lunch in honour of Steffan.

By the time I got home from work on Friday evening, I was well and truly wrecked, and had a few beers and headed to bed early.

Saturday morning, got up for my photography course, learned lots of other interesting things about Photoshop (before my install of Photoshop decided to do some very strange things and looks like it’s in need of a re-install!).

Then, it was dash home, get changed and head down for lunch with the dignitaries of the day. After lunch, we all headed down to St Mary’s church in Drogheda, for what really was a wonderful christening. Barry came along and took pictures (which I have yet to have a proper look at!) and after the ceremony, we retired to Europa Hotel for a lovely bash. After this, a few of us headed back to Morgan and Yvonne’s house for a few more drinks.

Then came yesterday, the day of the big match. What a day that turned out to be! The atmosphere around town was great, all the pubs were jammed and everyone was really looking forward to the game. Whilst the game itself was not the best exhibition of rugby I’ve seen, the result is what counts, and Ireland 19, England 13 has a very nice ring to it indeed. Here’s to the possibility of the Grand Slam now. I see us having the beating of the French, especially given we are playing them at home, but, Wales really look like they could give us a run for our money, and playing them in Cardiff, with the weight of expectation that is going to follow them there could really be our stumbling block. Then again, we’ve been there before, and we could well go into the game as underdogs, given the home advantage the Welsh will have, so, that could suit us.

Now, all I have to do is find a ticket to the game……

Here comes the weekend!

25 02 2005

And what a weekend it’s going to be!! Think I’m going to lie low tonight, in preperation, but, tomorrow morning I have my photography course, then I’m off to the christening of my godchild, Steffan Frank Mc Cullough, and no doubt we’ll do a good job of wetting the baby’s head, and then on Sunday comes the war, Ireland Vs England, with a good session planned both pre and post the match, should be a very good and hopefully very very good day!! :)

Still looking for a new motor…

24 02 2005

Audi TT’s are few and far between when it comes to buying one in Ireland, and I’m having serious difficulty locating one, though, I still really want one, time is starting to work against me.

Stuart pointed me in the direction of this lovely Merc C-180 Coupe which I have taken quite a fancy to, however, the 2litre engine might just push insurance costs for me toward monopoly money! :(

Introducing Nora

20 02 2005

Headed to Belfast today to collect a new addition to the family. Nora (see pics below) has become the latest addition to the Mc Grath clan. Whilst it’s not long since my wee Sue passed away, we do really need a dog around the part of the world where we live, so, we set about finding Nora.

Like Sue, she’s a wee Shetland Sheepdog (Shelty) and actually hails from Glasgow, via Donegal and Belfast. She’s 3 and a half years old and has had one litter of pups and is just totally adorable.

I know she’s going to be a complete poser in front of camera, based on the pics that I have taken today, despite the fact that she has been very nervous and overwhelmed by everything that has been going on, but, I’m looking forward to many happy years with her, and many many wonderful pictures being taken.

And you thought Dublin was bad?

19 02 2005

During a recent trip to Paris, we actually found somewhere more expensive than Dublin! Ok, so we’ve been to Paris quite a bit and knew fully what to expect, but it’s still a shock to the system when you arrive, and suddenly end up with the below, whilst looking for a cheap place to drink…

and you thought Dublin was bad?

Only thing is, you somehow feel you are paying for a very pleasant overall feeling in Paris, something you definately don’t get in Dublin.

Also, Tom was in London and confirmed my opinions that London is suprisingly inexpensive relative to Dublin. Now, who would have thought 10 years ago that we would ever be saying that!?!

Dull blog

17 02 2005

So, I’ve been accused of having a dull blog of late, well, ya know, shit happens. There’s been lots going on in my life of late, not least starting the new job, doing quite a bit of travel, doing some courses, and most importantly, being asked by Morgan and Yvonne to be Godfather to their newborn, Steffan. I am delighted and honoured to have been asked, and look forward to the christening in a few weeks.

More blogging will come shortly when things start to settle down a bit. In the meantime, I’m meeting up with Debs and Paul tomorrow which is really cool, and we’re off to Belfast on Sunday to pick up a new dog. Oh, and I have to try and find the time to buy a new car too……

All change
