Cirrus Charges

8 03 2005

I was away up north for a wedding at the weekend, and decided to top up the sterling funds in Beleek, Co. Fermanagh, a town which straddles the border between the Republic and Northern Ireland. Now, I’m no stranger to crossing the border and spending money in the North, but, I am rather shocked and suprised that I have just received a Cirrus charge of EUR 5.08 for withdrawing £100. I don’t recall that ever happening before, and it’s rather frustrating considering that a walk 50 yards down the road would have resulted in me withdrawing money in the Republic without any bank charges.

I have never heard of that kind of extortionate charge and I do a lot of Cirrus transactions in Germany and the States using an AIB card.
