CNN reported Miles O’ Brien is blogging live from New Orleans as Katrina approaches
BBC News also have something similar
In anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, I have been reading the weather forecast courtesy of NOAA and to be honest, from the below warning, it looks pretty bleak:
DEVASTATING DAMAGE EXPECTED
AT LEAST ONE HALF OF WELL CONSTRUCTED HOMES WILL HAVE ROOF AND WALL
FAILURE. ALL GABLED ROOFS WILL FAIL…LEAVING THOSE HOMES SEVERELY
DAMAGED OR DESTROYED.THE MAJORITY OF INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS WILL BECOME NON FUNCTIONAL.
PARTIAL TO COMPLETE WALL AND ROOF FAILURE IS EXPECTED. MANY WOOD
FRAMED LOW RISING APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL BE DESTROYED. CONCRETE
BLOCK LOW RISE APARTMENTS WILL SUSTAIN MAJOR DAMAGE…INCLUDING SOME
WALL AND ROOF FAILURE.HIGH RISE OFFICE AND APARTMENT BUILDINGS WILL SWAY DANGEROUSLY…A
FEW POSSIBLY TO THE POINT OF TOTAL COLLAPSE. MANY WINDOWS WILL BLOW
OUT.AIRBORNE DEBRIS WILL BE WIDESPREAD…AND MAY INCLUDE HEAVY ITEMS SUCH
AS HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES AND EVEN LIGHT VEHICLES. SPORT UTILITY
VEHICLES AND LIGHT TRUCKS WILL BE MOVED. THE BLOWN DEBRIS WILL CREATE
ADDITIONAL DESTRUCTION. PERSONS…PETS…AND LIVESTOCK EXPOSED TO THE
WINDS WILL FACE CERTAIN DEATH IF STRUCK.POWER OUTAGES MAY LAST FOR WEEKS…AS MANY POWER POLES WILL BE DOWN
AND TRANSFORMERS DESTROYED. WATER SHORTAGES WILL MAKE HUMAN SUFFERING
INCREDIBLE BY MODERN STANDARDS.THE VAST MAJORITY OF NATIVE TREES WILL BE SNAPPED OR UPROOTED. ONLY
THE HEARTIEST WILL REMAIN STANDING…BUT BE TOTALLY DEFOLIATED.

Most people who read this site regularly know that I’m a huge Google fan, both of their actual products themselves, and how they conduct their business. In yet another example of their coolness, in outlining plans to offload a batch of new shares, they’ve come up with the following gem:
The exact number of shares to be sold 14,159,265 happens to be the eight digits beyond the decimal point in the mathematical value Pi.
I’ve been trying to work through my personal to-do list (entirely seperate to the crazy work one) of late, and some long-standing entries on it were: > get Sky installed; > set up proper wireless lan in the house; > sit on sofa watching some decent telly and being on the net at the same time.
Well, I’m glad to say, that tonight, all that can be wiped off. I had my sky installed two weeks ago (can I just say how much Sky plus rocks!!!) and tonight, finally got around to sorting the wireless network and connectivity out. Now, all I need is something a little bit more decent than my poxy dialup connection here in the house (how cool would it be to work for a Telco, or an ISP, eh!?!)
Well, given it’s my birthday in just a few days time, and people keep asking me if there is anything I would like as a birthday present, I have finally come up with an answer
