Pat Kenny caught out

28 02 2006

There’s just been a classic moment over on Radio One, where Pat Kenny was talking to Des Cahill about this weekends Ireland vs Wales rugby match in Dublin. Topic of discussion since the game has been the dreadful performance of Wales star player, Gavin Henson. Henson, as well known for his hairstyle, fake tan, and the fact that he’s going out with Welsh pop-tart Charlotte Church as he is for his rugby has been at the brunt end of a lot of slagging of late.

Pat, reading through text messages as he was talking to Des live on air comes out with the following:

Pat:“I’ve a text in here Des, is it true that Gavin Henson goes into Church after every game?”
Des:“Er, ummm (long silence), I think you’ve been had there Pat, and missed the significance of that one….”

Classic, classic fun and games!! :)

UPDATE: I’ve just been sent the MP3 of this happening

Man forced to marry goat

28 02 2006

BBC News are carrying a story about a Sudanese man who has been forced to marry a goat!! Why is that the case, well, the goats owner found the man having sex with his goat. Unsure what to do, he decided to tie the man up and consult the elders of the village.

On consideration, the elders decided to force the man to pay a dowry to the goats owner, and let him marry the goat. Where are they now? Happily married according to the goats original owner!!

Thanks to the moany old whore for the link

Dublin Riots

25 02 2006

I have been writing over on the metblog all afternoon about the riots that have taken place in Dublin City Centre this afternoon. There’s lots of blog posts and pictures starting to appear on the net now. Newstalk have to be congratulated on their excellent coverage too, which has been most informative throughout the day.

Remembering 9/11

25 02 2006

Canon EOS 20D || Canon EF-S 17 - 85 @ 17mm || 1/15s || f10 ||

Every so often, you see an image in your minds eye, that you know will need some work once you get it out of the camera, but, that will be great (subjective opinion of course!) when you do some post-processing on it.

This is one of those images. I took it in full colour obviously, down at the World Trade Centre site in New York back in October 2005. I knew what I wanted to do as I was taking, and this is the result! I’m happy with it, hope you like it as much as I do.

Jack Johnson

22 02 2006

Barry and myself are off to see Jack Johnson in the Point this evening! I’ve been dying to see him live for ages, and really looking forward to the gig! Hopefully I’ll get around to writing a bit about it tomorrow.

If you’ve not already heard Jack Johnson’s stuff, go check it out, he rocks!!

Female Urinals

20 02 2006

Ok, this is just messed up!! I’ve always though that the Electric Picnic sounded like the coolest, classiest of all the usual summer gigs that take place in Ireland. It’s always billed itself as a chilled out, high-brow event, as opposed to the hectic, mud invested, drink fuelled events that are Oxeygen and the like.

But, this mail appeared today, courtesy of the event organisers for Electric Picnic:

As Spring approaches and the time draws near for the 2006 line-up
announcement, we thought we’d keep you updated with some news and
developments in other Electric Picnic matters.

FEMALE URINALS: It has also been announced today that The Electric Picnic is
taking care of female concert-goers this year by providing female urinals at
the boutique music festival in Stradbally.

Everyone knows that the worst element of any festival is the long queues for
portaloos that are often too awful to even consider sitting on. The Electric
Picnic will be the first in Ireland to provide female urinals in a bid to
cut loo queues and offer women a more time efficient & hygienic option to
portaloos.

Female urinals for girls will be used in association with P-Mates. The unique
and original P-Mate enables woman to pee while standing upright. The P-Mate
is a small conical device made out of leakproof, firm and reliable material
and is used by girls to enable pee-ing standing upright. It is then
instantly disposed of; it is environmentally friendly, fully recyclable
material.

At Electric Picnic ladies will be able to walk into an enclosed girls-only
urinal, pick up a P-Mate and go! No queues, no waiting around for your turn,
no fuss.

Female urinals are just one of the many new facilities that will be provided
at the festival this year.

That, my friends, just isn’t right!! And any of my female friends I’ve mentioned it to so far are in agreement!!

Team Schumacher

19 02 2006

Eddie Jordan has thrown the cat amongst the pigeons and stated that he believes that Michael Schumacher and Ross Brawn may be considering putting together their own F1 team when Schumacher and Brawn’s (and many other key Ferrari figures) contracts expire at the end of the 2007 season.

On reading Jordan’s thought’s, it does actually seem like quite a plausable idea, Schumacher would be able to gain massive sponsorship deals in Germany, with the possibility of the VW / Audi group supplying engines, and given the rumours of Renault pulling out of Formula One at the end of the coming season, Shcu and Brawn would be able to purchase the team where they forged their amazing partnership way back.

It’s actually a really exciting prospect, and one I would fully support. Now, who would be his co-driver I wonder…..

Poor Show

19 02 2006

Ok, many apologies, between the metblog and work stuff, I have been completely useless at blogging here, and even more useless at blogging over there for the past two weeks or so! I can’t see it letting up for the next few days, but, hopefully by the end of the week I’ll be back to a more normal level of sanity!! Bear with me please, and, don’t forget to keep an eye on the metblog :)

In with the new, out with the old.

15 02 2006

So, not only did we get around to launching dublin.metblogs.com today, but, I also finally got rid of my old blog that had been hosted on blogs.linux.ie. Everything has now been relocated to where you are reading this now, and I again just want to give a big shout out to Donncha for all his help over the years I had my blog over there!b

Some important news…

15 02 2006

For the past few weeks, myself and a few other Dublin bloggers, have been working with the wonderful team from metroblogging.com to bring you dublin.metblogs.com.

The site has just gone live within the past few minutes, and with a bit of luck, it will turn out to be as enjoyable and interesting as I’m hoping it will. There’s a great team on board already, and hopefully now that we’ve gone live, we’ll be able to get a few more into the party as well! :)

Do please check it out, and let us know what you think of it!

And, for a quick blurb on metroblogging.com

“Metblogs are a hyper-local look at what’s going on in the city. Our hand-picked core of regional bloggers give each site a new perspective on daily life; less calendar listings, more friendly advice. With Metblogs, you can read about life and times in your neighborhood, your favorite places to visit, places where you’ve never been, etc”

Metblogs have come into their own in recent scenarios such as the London Bombings, Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, and the recent transport strike and Blizzard in New York, with main-stream media and people in the vicinity as well as around the world turning to them for up to the minute advice and live accounts of news happening as it happened.

Oh, and forbes.com think they rock too, having named them as one of their websites of the year!
