If you haven’t been, now is a time to start watching the BBC Ten O’Clock News. I’ve always been a huge fan of Fergal Keane, and, acting as BBC’s special correspondant in Lebanon at the moment, he has been at his very best, producing some exceptionally factual, hard hitting and moving pieces, documenting the human side of the suffering that is being inflicted on the innocent people of Lebanon currently.
I haven’t been able to find an official source of his reports on the BBC Website, but, a YouTube search reveals these recent articles.

Here are some stark statistics:
• Around 30 to 40 people are killed every day in the current Israel/Lebanon conflict.
• About 100 people are killed every day in the violence in Iraq.
• And 1,200 people are killed every day in the war in the Congo.
Which story will BBC News be leading with on the Ten O’Clock News tonight? The Israel/Lebanon conflict of course, as is pretty much every other news organisation in the world currently. Why is this the case. For an insight, have a read of what Craig Oliver, editor of the Ten O’Clock News has to say over on the brilliant BBC Editors Blog

As part of my fundraising efforts for the Irish Township Challenge, I am planning a fundraising ball, and need to try and get my hands on a Marquee to host it. Can anyone help me with sourcing a Marquee, getting prices (that are suitable for a charity gig, the aim here is to make money for families living in shanty towns with no houses or security, not line the pockets of an Irish Marquee Company). Contact details / companies etc are what I require. Leave your comments here and let me know ASAP.

There is a really interesting article in the New York Times at the moment, a Q & A session with the Assistant Managing Editor for Photography, Michele McNally. It’s part of their current Ask the Editors feature, which has seen the likes Executive Editor Bill Keller answer questions in a very lenghty piece, as well as Business Editor Larry Ingrassia and Deputy Managing Editor Jonathan Landman.
The photgraphic piece is of most interest to me however, and if you’re at all interested in photography or photo-journalism it’s a really good piece to read.

So, I finally got some good news on my proper camera this morning, that Canon have decided to honour the warranty despite the fact that it is no longer within warranty, but due to the fact that it has been with them twice already in warranty for the same focus issue. This means that I will be saving several hundred euro on repairs, and should also hopefully get a fully working kit back in my hands at some stage this week. Canon currently have my entire camera / lens kit so everything should be calibrated together and give me the kind of functionality and precision that I would expect from such kit!
Here’s hoping to maybe having it for a photographic weekend in England this coming weekend!

Ok, so, I’ve really sucked at both blogging here, over there and on the photo blog for the past while! Well, the good news is that I have re-designed and changed about the photoblog, so, hopefully I will get around to being more regular with posting pics to that over the next while. If you haven’t already checked it out, please do, and let me know what you think. I’ve also started posting pictures to my flickr account if you’re interested!

Could the breakingnews.ie journalists who are lifting stories from blogs please research what you are writing a little bit first before you rehash and add a little spin and think that’s it’s worthy of posting to your own news site. Grrr!!

Ok, I’m starting to sound like a Vodafone pimp (Dervla even pointed out that I’m wearing a red tee today!), but, I’ve just noticed if you have a Pay As You Go phone with Voda, and you log into your My Vodafone page on the website, go to price plans, and you can set yourself up with a Talk and Text package, which means that if you top up by EUR 20, you can talk, and text to any Vodafone number up to the value of your top up for free!! You need to log in to do this, it is not given automatically, but, it’s most definately worth it!
