		<description>No, you don't need to join, but it is rather useful. It's also a way of meeting new folks and interacting with like minded people, who possibly would not use irc or the likes of MSN. you can also look at http://www.twit.ie/ which has a lot of twitters on it but means you don't have to get a twitter account just yet.....</description>
