WOO!! Apple have just rolled out television to iTunes Australia! The news isn’t official yet but, it’s a very promising start. I’m not all that interested in TV shows myself, but, I really can’t wait until the iTunes movie store comes here, it’s going to make life so much easier for me! Roll on my plans to install an Apple TV and setup a whole media centre for myself at home!

Ooppss, for anyone trying to access this blog, or The Dublin Community Blog for the past few hours, you would have had a problem. Unfortunately, this was out of my control, but, hopefully everything has returned to normal for you now.

This is a pretty insane story, but, great for those of you contemplating a complete change in your life. Ian Usher is selling his life on Ebay. This is the real deal, car, house, bike, job, friends, lifestyle, you name it, he’s selling it. Apparently, he recently split up with his wife, and decided that he wants to completely change his life and re-invent himself. He’s managed to convince his friends and employers etc to be part of this, and it’s well underway. I saw him interviewed on TV this morning, and he was saying that originally he hoped to cover the cost of his house, at about $400,000. The latest bid shows this coming in at $2.2 million!! That is one really, really neat at re-inventing your life and starting fresh! It’s going to be interesting to see how this turns out, and if he does actually end up getting the money! Just over 6 days to go until we find out!

Every now and then, two bits of random randomness come together to form brilliance. This image made me laugh out loud when I stumbled upon it on flickr. Grabbing a shot like this alone would make the trip to Melbourne worthwhile! I need to get down there at some stage over the next few weeks for work, not sure I’ll be able to find the time to grab a shot of this, so, just in case I thought I would share it here with you.

I eagerly downloaded Firefox 3 this morning. I had stayed away from all the beta and RC releases of it, which is the first time that I had stayed away from a FF beta, and I have to say now that I’m glad. The difference in speed of rendering pages between FF2 and FF3 is stunning. The new version is so, so much snappier. So far I’ve only installed it on my Vista laptop in work, but I really can’t wait to get home and try it out on my mac. If you’re a Firefox user, this is one upgrade that I really, really urge you make right now! And if you don’t already use Firefox, now is the moment to change.
Also, if you’re a photographer, of an avid viewer of photos on the web, aside from the speed boost that you notice, probably the most exciting feature of FF3 is the ability to recognise ICC colour profiles. Assuming you have your monitor correctly setup, this should make viewing photos far better, as the profiles will leave you viewing exactly what the photographer intended colour wise, as opposed to what Firefox thought was the best fit. Unfortunately, ICC profiling is not enabled by default in FF3, and you do have to change the config, but, if you follow the steps over on Rob Galbraith’s post you will see it’s really pretty trivial.

As the day when Kassie and I take delivery of our new little MINI draws ever closer (though, we are still not sure when, the boat was due to land on Monday and so far we have no word!) something very exciting has happened in Chez Kasaragh. Our new personal plates for MINI have just arrived. We both wanted European style number plates for our car, and we decided that DK08 was the registration that we wanted. So, here we are, European Plates, DK08 all shiney and new and waiting on MINI to arrive!

Ok, Kassie is to blame, but, I’ve decided to give Facebook another try. This time I am not going to get myself hooked like last time, I am most definitely not going to be accepting the vast majority of games / application requests that come through, as I think they’re pretty much useless, and I am just going to use it as a means of staying in touch (and getting in touch) with people. If you feel the need, go ahead and add me, I might just do the same!

If you’re in Australia, and you receive a lot of telemaraketing cold-calls to your home or mobile number, then help is at hand. The Austrlian Communications and Media Authority have set up a Do Not Call Register where you have the option to register your number on a database which prevents telemarketers from calling you. If they do call (any time from 30 days after you register) the company in question is in breach of the law and may be prosecuted. I think

I’ve long toyed with the idea of moving over to shoot with RAW images, however, other than a few little tests here and there, I haven’t really seen how I can benefit from the move. Barry has been at me for a long time to make the jump, but, it took me until Sunday, at an Apple Aperture presentation to make up my mind that it’s time for me to make the jump.
The jist of the presentation that made me decide to jump is available in this tutorial on recovering shadows and highlights using Aperture. I toyed around with a few settings last night whilst I had my camera tethered to Aperture, and between White Balance selection and highlight recovery in RAW, I’m now sold!
