But where do they get that saving? If you compare server/software costs it doesn't add up. The savings are often in the less tangible costs; down time, restrictive technologies, failed back ups, management costs, ability to seat assets and the existing pc estate. As for the is it cloud computing debate...pure play browser based solutions do not match business requirements, integration with legacy apps, user experience etc. The hosted desktop model, delivering a like for like user experience is a massive step forward and its adoption is growing but more slowly than predicted. My view is that people are extremely cautious of any change in this current global economic struggle and that awareness of the existence of this approach is too low. One of our Irish partners is doing very well in this space which I think is down to the fact that people in modern Ireland accept change more readily as they have seen a lot of it recently. And now the Irish economy is coming out of recession I expect this to fly.
